Description
This is a late 18th-century public house, The Angel, located on the east side of Wetherby High Street. The main building is of stuccoed brick with a magnesian limestone wing to the left return, which is numbered 2 Horsefair. It has a Welsh slate roof and comprises two storeys and an attic, with six windows to the first floor. The building has a twin-roofed design with wings extending to the rear right and rear left.
A central stone doorcase features pilasters, a double keystone, and a pediment. To the right of the doorcase is an unequally-hung 15-pane sash window. The outer bays have bow windows with plinths and projecting sills. The tripartite sashes in these bow windows have glazing bars; the left-hand bow is less pronounced and contains a central 16-pane sash. The first floor windows are unequally-hung 15-pane sashes with projecting sills and raised keystones. There are ashlar gable copings on the left side, and cement-rendered end stacks and a ridge stack to the right of centre.
The left return of the main range features a sash bow window on the ground floor. A three-storey, three-bay wing (No 2, Horsefair) has exposed stonework to the first and second bays. This wing has a panelled door beneath a flat arch, with two 12-pane casements on the ground floor. The first floor has two 16-pane sashes, and the second floor windows consist of one unequally-hung 12-pane sash and a matching casement, all with projecting sills. Ground-floor and first-floor windows have flat arches.
