Description
Nos 27 and 29 High Street, along with No 2 Cross Street, are town houses that have been converted into shops and offices. They were built in the early 19th century using ashlar magnesian limestone and feature a Welsh slate roof. The buildings rise three storeys and have a three-bay front facing High Street, with a two-bay left return and a two-storey, two-bay wing that faces Cross Street.
The High Street facade includes an early 20th-century shop front on the left, which has a central door with an overlight beneath a shallow wooden canopy supported by consoles. The right side features a later shop front. On the first floor, there are projecting stone sills and flat arches above four-pane sash windows, with a blind central window. The second floor has a blind central window, an unequally-hung nine-pane sash on the right, and an altered sash on the left. The roof has paired wooden gutter brackets, with a hipped end on the left and gable copings on the right, along with an ashlar ridge stack.
On the left return, there is a panelled door with a three-pane overlight beneath a flat arch, situated to the left of two original window openings that now have plain 20th-century casements. The first and second-floor windows match those on the front. The lower wing on the left has a boarded door with an overlight next to a 20th-century shop window, along with altered first-floor openings and paired gutter brackets.
