Description
Nos 41, 43, 43A, and 45 on High Street is a town house that has been converted into various commercial premises. It dates from around 1700 and has been altered over time. The building features cement rendering and has pantile and Welsh slate roofs. It has an L-shaped plan with two storeys, displaying five windows on the first floor facing High Street and four windows on the right side. The corners are accentuated with rusticated quoins. The ground floor has been altered with 20th-century shop fronts.
On the first floor, No 41 retains a band and has a 16-pane sash window with a projecting stone sill. To the right, there are two similar sash windows with raised keystones, while the other windows are all 20th-century casements that lack stone sills or keystones. The building has a cemented eaves cornice, and the right end of the roof is hipped with a ridge stack located on the left. This building was formerly known as The White Hart inn and is one of the few structures in Wetherby that seems to have survived the fire of 1723, which destroyed over half of the town's properties.
