Description
Verger's Cottage is an early 19th-century building located in Westbury Churchyard. It is two storeys high and constructed of whitewashed brick, designed in three stages that create a picturesque appearance, with each stage slightly shorter than the one to its left. The roof is made of pantiles, and there are gable end chimneys flanking the central section of the building.
The main part of the cottage, which is the largest, features a band at the first-floor level. On the left side, there is a tall glazing bar fixed light window that interrupts the band. To the right, there are a three-light and a two-light window on the first floor, along with a two-light window on the ground floor; these windows are unevenly spaced and have small panes. The central section includes a doorway with six raised and fielded panels, supported by plain brackets beneath a plain flat narrow hood. Above the doorway, there is a two-light window.
The right-hand section of the cottage, which was formerly a barn, has a two-light window on the ground floor, while the gable end and rear are finished with weatherboarding. A curved garden wall leads to a path towards Edward Street, featuring a "Gothic" pointed doorway with wrought iron hinges, which now serves as a garden gateway.
