Description
Easton House is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th century and was altered in 1783. It features Flemish brickwork and a tiled roof. The building is two storeys high, with cellars and attics, and consists of three bays, with a three-bay rear wing at the center. The central entrance boasts a fine late 17th-century moulded six-panel door, which is topped by a three-paned overlight and is sheltered by a moulded timber canopy supported by brackets. A blue brick flush plat band runs along the façade. The windows are twelve-paned sashes with slender glazing bars, set beneath gauged brick lintels. The eaves are adorned with offsetting brick dentils. The mansard roof features three hipped dormers, each with four-paned sashes, and there are stacks at the gables. The rear wing has twelve and sixteen-paned sashes and a gable stack. Inside, part of the structure incorporates elements from a 16th-century house, possibly belonging to the Esturmey family. A major 16th-century stone fireplace with a Tudor arch and spandrels, along with a restored stone shelf, is located in the parlour to the right of the central stair hall. The cross beams have ogee chamfer stops. The south bedroom on the first floor contains a late 17th-century cupboard face featuring an inset fine linenfold panel, and there is a good 19th-century cast iron fireplace.
