Description

This is a group of eight coffin tombs located in two rows, dating from the late 17th century to the early 18th century, situated 2 to 4 meters north of the nave of the Church of St Andrew in Etchilhampton. The east row features three hogs-back coffins. From north to south, they are: (a) John Dorchester, who died on October 4, 1691; (b) an unnamed Dorchester, who died in 1700; and (c) another unnamed Dorchester, with the date illegible. There is also (d) a flat-backed coffin with no visible inscription. In the west row, from north to south, there are: (e) a flat-backed coffin with an illegible inscription on the south side; (f) a taller flat-backed coffin, also with an illegible inscription; (g) another coffin similar to the last; and (h) a flat-backed coffin belonging to William Dorchester, who died on February 25, 1720, and his daughter Mary.
