Group Of 4 Bruges Monuments In Churchyard, 3-8 Metres North Of Chancel, Church Of St John The Baptist

This is a group of four chest tombs located in the churchyard, 3 to 8 meters north of the chancel of the Church of St John the Baptist. They date from the 18th century and early 19th century and are made of limestone.

In the east row from the north, the first tomb features a moulded table and base with recessed corner balusters and a fluted frieze. There is a fielded panel on the north side between tied drapes, but the dedication is illegible, with a date of death noted as 1818.

The second tomb also has a moulded table and base, with fluted corner pilasters and two raised panels separated by a tied string of flowers, dedicated to William Bruges and Hestor, who died in 1802-1803.

The third tomb has a wide moulded table with centre and end panelled pilasters that divide raised tondi. It features a death's head, bones, and hourglass on the end, but the individual is unidentified.

The fourth tomb is a low chest with a plain table and sides, dedicated to Rebecca Bruges and William Bruges, with a date of death noted as approximately 1818.
