Description
Manor Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the early 16th century. It is timber framed, rendered, and colourwashed, with a slate roof. The building has two storeys, featuring a main block with a cross passage and an end parlour to the right, a short cross wing to the left, and an extension to the rear consisting of three bays, along with a further angled wing, likely from the 17th century, which contains the kitchen and service rooms.
The entrance is located within a two-storey porch, which jetties on two sides at the upper floor and is open at ground level. It features a Tudor arch and blind spandrels, with a 19th-century panelled door and side seats. The ground floor has 19th-century three-light windows, while the first floor, which is also jettied, has 19th-century boxed oriel windows set on 16th-century bracketed and moulded sills. The building showcases 16th to 17th-century moulded barge boards that return on brackets.
The right gable end has two superimposed fireplaces with moulded stone surrounds, remnants from a demolished further bay to the right. The rear wing is timber framed, standing four panels high with ogee corner braces, and has been altered on the east side. The kitchen wing is also timber framed, now rendered, with a brick rear elevation and a lean-to.
Inside, the main parlour features a fine mid-16th-century stone fireplace with a Tudor arch and blind spandrels, and there is a similar but smaller fireplace in the upper floor chamber of the same stack. An early 19th-century dog-leg stair is present. The rear wing has deep chamfered cross beams with ogee stops, and some linenfold panelling has been reset over the fireplaces. An early ceiling painted in pink and gold is said to survive over the main stair, though it is not currently accessible.
