White And Lye Monuments In Churchyard East Of Path, About 5 Metres North Of North Porch Of Church Of St Mary

The White and Lye monuments are two chest tombs located in the churchyard east of the path, about 5 meters north of the north porch of the Church of St Mary. These tombs date from the 18th century and are made of ashlar stone.

The first, the White memorial, is from the late 18th century and features a moulded base and cornice, a fluted frieze that breaks forward over two fielded plaques, and a floral drop at the center. It has fluted angle pilasters topped with rosettes. The inscription commemorates Elizabeth White.

The second, the Lye memorial, dates from around 1800 and also consists of ashlar. It has a large raised oval plaque on the north side, draped with three winged cherub heads above and urns on either side. The design includes a Greek key frieze and fluted Ionic pilasters at the corners, with urns above the caps. There are two plaques on the south side with fluting along the top. This monument features a moulded base and capstone, with the inscription dedicated to Sarah Lye. The monument is surrounded by damaged iron railings.
