ST 9958 POTTERNE HIGH STREET (east side)

14/147 White and Lye monuments in church- yard east of path, about 5m north of north porch of Church of St Mary

GV II

Two chest tombs, C18, ashlar. From south: a) White memorial, late C18, with moulded base and cornice, fluted frieze, broken forward over 2 fielded plaques. Floral drop to centre and fluted angle pilasters with rosettes over. Inscription to Elizabeth White. b) Lye memorial, c1800, ashlar with large raised oval north side plaque, draped with 3 winged cherub heads above and urns each side. Greek key frieze. Fluted Ionic pilaster angles with urns above caps. Two south plaques with fluting along top. Moulded base and capstone. North side inscription to Sarah Lye. Monument is surrounded by damaged iron railing.
