Description
Three chest tombs located in the churchyard east and north-east of the chancel of the Church of All Saints date from the 18th and early 19th centuries and are made of ashlar.
The first tomb, situated about 8 meters east of the chancel, is an unidentified early 18th-century monument featuring two sunk panels on each side, one at each end, and a moulded capstone.
The second tomb, approximately 2 meters north-east of the chancel, is the Lanfear monument, dating around 1845. This tomb is also made of ashlar and has black and red coloring. It features flattened lyre ends, a low relief classical sarcophagus, and heavy scrolls. The north side has a single plaque, while the south side has two plaques with an urn in a niche and a descending dove between them.
The third tomb, located about 4 meters north of the Lanfear monument, is the Messiter monument from the later 18th century. It has two raised plaques on each side, baluster angles, and similar flat balusters on the inner side of the plaques. The center of this tomb features a carved flower in a vase, with a moulded base and cornice that includes a fluted frieze. The inscription commemorates Thomas Messiter, who died in 1783.
