MARKET PLACE (Oatmeal Row) Nos 16 & 17

2. Early to mid C17. 4 storeys, each with a single gabled plastered front and old tile roof to Market Place, irregular and partly tile hung on west to Minster Street qv. Modern shop fronts on ground floor. No 16 has oversailing upper floors with 1 attic sash 2 on 2nd floor and 3 light casement on 1st floor. No 17 has elaborate timber framed 2 storey bay, with curved sides, to 1st and 2nd floors. 16 light mullioned and transomed window each floor, the transomes and window heads moulded and bay is crowned by a wide moulded and bracketed cornice with turned pendants. The panelled aprons have faint remains of fleur-de-lis relief. All lights plain C19 Later Slate pent roof over shop fronts. Interiors: No 16 has original wall frame exposed on 1st floor, room with early C17 panelling, fireplace with overmantel. No 17 has good C18 dog leg stair, unusual wedge plan.

Nos 15 to 19 (consec) form a group.
