Description
No 36 on Silver Street is a building dating from the 15th century, with a plaque indicating a history and date of 1428. It stands three storeys high with an attic and features a timber frame with plaster infilling, along with an oversailing second floor. The front has a gabled design with cut 19th-century bargeboards.
On the Minster Street side, there are two windows on the upper floors, which consist of three-light leaded lattice casements. The ground floor has a modern shop front. The Silver Street side includes a two-light attic casement, a four-light casement on the second floor, and two two-light casements on the first floor, with a modern shop front at ground level. The building is topped with an old tile roof.
No 36 is part of a group that includes the Poultry Cross and Nos 36 to 52 (even), and it also forms a group with Nos 1 to 17 (odd) on Minster Street. The rear elevation of No 36 connects with those of Nos 36 to 52 (even) and St Thomas's Church in St Thomas's Square.
