Description
3 and 5 Minster Street is a building dating from the 15th or 16th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. It stands four storeys tall and is constructed with a timber frame and plaster infilling, topped with an old tile roof. The front features double gables, with the second and third floors overhanging. The gables are adorned with wide cut bargeboards and finials. The second floor has exposed beam ends over the overhang. There are canted bay windows on the first and second floors, with the earlier version on the second floor featuring three casement lights, while the first-floor windows have been altered with coved supports. The ground floor has a 19th-century Gothic-style shop front. The rear elevation is tile-hung and gabled, with casement windows. This building is part of a group that includes Nos 1 to 17 (odd) and No 36 Silver Street, and the rear elevations form a group with the rear elevations of Nos 36 to 52 (even) Silver Street and St Thomas's Church in St Thomas's Square.
