Description

Ladies Bridge is an accommodation bridge over the Kennet and Avon Canal, built in 1808 by John Rennie. It is made of limestone ashlar, featuring vermiculated stones that form the arch and end piers, along with various patterned lozenge and triangular vermiculated stones. The bridge has recessed panels adorned with towel swags and fan corners. The parapet includes balustraded openings at both ends and a central panel that displays a swag and the date. The soffit of the bridge is decorated with line restication, and there is a large incised graffito of a swan. It was likely constructed as a decorative feature in the park of Wilcot Manor.
