Description

Nos 42 and 44 on Old Coach Road are two attached cottages dating from the 18th century, with alterations made in the 19th century. The north face is made of chalkstone rubble that is rendered, while the south front has been refaced with 19th-century brick. The cottages have thatched roofs and are two storeys high, each consisting of two bays. No 44 is shorter and lower than No 42, suggesting it may have originally served as an outbuilding for No 42. Each cottage has entrances located in lean-tos at the gable ends, along with a central porch on the south front. The windows are timber casements. The roof is hipped, featuring a four-flue stack on the party wall and a single stack on the west gable.
