Former Sunday School Attached To The Tabernacle

The former Sunday School attached to the Tabernacle, dated 1882, was designed by architects Paull and Bonella and built by William Smith. This Tudor collegiate building is two storeys high, constructed from dressed and snecked rubble on a projecting plinth, featuring crenellation above a leftover doorway. It has leaded mullion and transom windows with moulded four-centre arch heads and straight drips above. The eaves cornice is moulded and supported by zoomorphic corbels at the crenellated section, with a wall chimney located between the first and second windows from the right. The chimney stack rises above the eaves and has two octagonal shafts with moulded capping. The roof is low-pitched and tiled.

There are two rainwater heads dated 1882 on the first floor and 1883 on the ground floor, along with three ranges of paired windows. Quatrefoil vents are present in the plinth and above the ground floor. To the left, there is a doorway with a Tudor arch, featuring a high stopped moulded chamfer on the jambs and a tall drip with moulded diamond stops, leading to a 12-panel door. Memorial stones flanking the doorway are also dated 1882, and there is a two-light window above it. An extension to the west includes a pair of three-light windows on the ground floor and a lancet window above with a drip mould that has zoomorphic stops. A corbelled chimney with an octagonal shaft is located in the corner. There is a crenellated break to the left, which also has a doorway related to the vestries.

The former Sunday School, previously known as the 'Institute', is situated to the east of The Tabernacle United Reformed Church. It, along with related structures, forms a group with Nos 24 to 26 (consecutive) and 2 and 3 Tabernacle Cottages.
