Description

CHURCH STREET 1. 5411 (North Side) No 25 (former Women's Institute) ST 8558 5/181 II GV

  1. Including No 1 Tabernacle Cottages. 1871. 2 storeys symetric gabled Gothic lodge to east of gate screen to the Tabernacle. Built of dressed stone. Large 3 light 1st floor window. Including oculus to south. Through passage door with pointed arch on ground floor to right. 2 rain water pipes heads dated 18 AD 71 (?) with animal head spouts in parapet. 2 storey 3 light square bay in angle to south-west with traceried windows and trefoil panels below 1st floor. The 1st floor of the west front (No 1 Tabernacle Cottages) projects slightly on modillion string course; gabled break to right with entrance; gable with shaped kneelers to 1/2 dormer with 2 lancets to left above wide pointed relieving arch of plain stepped lancet triplet on ground floor. 2 stone octagonal shaft chimneys in concrete pantile roof.

Former Sunday School former 'Institute' to east, The Tabernacle United Reformed Church and related structures form a group with Nos 24 to 26 (consec) and 2 and 3 Tabernacle Cottages.
