Description
The Old Vestry Rooms, located on Church Street, were built in the mid-20th century and are two storeys tall. The building is designed in a vernacular style, constructed from rubble with dressed quoins and relieving arches above the ground floor windows. It features a tiled roof, with stone tiles on the south side. A central stack is positioned to the north, slightly breaking the roofline and shaped to the left, stepping below the eaves.
To the left of the chimney, there is a gable that includes a stepped three-light mullion and transom window with lattice lead glazing. On the ground floor, there are two four-light mullion and transom windows flanking the chimney. To the right, a lean-to has a pointed doorway with three stepped lancets above. Additionally, there is a three-light stepped window in the west gable and an entrance in the east gable leading to the first floor via a ramp.
The Old Vestry Rooms are part of a group that includes the Parish Church of St James, the listed tombs, Nos 7 and 11 to 13 Church Walk, and Nos 46 to 48 Fore Street. Nos 2 and 7 Church Walk are also of local interest.
