Description
No 62 on Fore Street is a late Georgian building dating from around 1851. It is situated between Nos 61 and 63 and features a three-storey front made of Bath stone ashlar. The façade is adorned with a bold dentil and modillion cornice, which includes lions' masks on the corona and blocking course, along with shallow frieze panels above the astragal. The building has rustic quoins and moulded cill bands on the ground, first, and second floors.
There are four ranges of windows: two-light casements on the first and second floors, and sash windows with marginal glazing on the ground floor. The windows are framed with architraves and cornices on the second floor, while the first floor features panelled pilasters and entablatures with pulvinated friezes, and the ground floor has panelled pilasters and brackets supporting the cornices.
Flanking the entrance are two Tuscan doorcases set on high plinths, with round-headed doorways that have moulded arches, keys, plain fanlights, and panelled doors. The ground floor also displays horizontal grooving.
Nos 61 to 64 and the railings to No 64 form a group with this building.
