Description
The entrance screen to the Tabernacle, built around the 1880s, features a large central gateway flanked by two subsidiary gateways, showcasing a blend of medieval styles. The central section has a gable and a four-centred arch with a traceried oculus above, along with a scroll that is inscribed with 'The Tabernacle AD...(obscured)'. It includes two nook shafts and buttresses. The side gateways are linked by arcades that feature pointed arches on nook shafts, a string course, and a flat parapet above. The entrance is adorned with fine cast and wrought iron gates, which have pierced plate bases, flowers with scrolled stems above, and plate leaves below the top bars, as well as fleurs-de-lis on the top rail. The screen is part of a group that includes the former Sunday School, the former 'Institute' to the east, the Tabernacle United Reformed Church, and nearby structures at Nos 24 to 26 and 2 and 3 Tabernacle Cottages.
