COLLINGBOURNE DUCIS SUNTON (east side) SU 25 SW 8/144 No 95

GV II

Cottage. C15-C16. Timber framed and rendered, the left gable of flint and brick. Thatched roof. Single storey and attic, 3 bays. Central living hall with service room to left, now kitchen, and bay to right, probably originally an outbuilding behind gable stack. Boarded door with glazed panel to side of main room. C20 timber windows and flush dormer to central bay. Brick stack. Interior has full cruck truss to left of door, with tie-beam extending under wall plates, and wattle and daub infilling, smoke blackened to main room. Ogee doorhead cut into tie. Rails pegged on support floor either side, perhaps later insertions. Apex of blades not seen. Open fireplace with ogee chamfer stops to lintel. Remains of oven. Mortices for wind braces to 2 left bays.
