Description
Nos 86 and 87 are two cottages that were originally a house, dating from the 16th to 17th century. The structure is timber framed with colourwashed brick noggings and features a thatched roof. It is a single storey with an attic and consists of three bays, with two narrow bays added on the left, likely from the 17th century. The framing consists of three panels high up to a heavy bressumer, with a tall panel above that includes heavy corner braces. The right gable wall has been rebuilt in masonry and rendered. The entrance was probably originally in the centre bay opposite the stack, but it has been altered; there is now a door to No 86 in the end gable and a door to No 87 in a glazed porch on the right bay. The roof is half hipped. The interior of No 87 is said to have a blocked large fireplace, although this has not been seen.
