Description

Home Farmhouse is a farmhouse dating from the 16th to 17th century, with an earlier core. The roof was raised in the 18th century, and the crosswing was extended forward in the 19th century. It is constructed of timber-frame and painted brick, topped with slate roofs and features ridge and end stacks. The building displays exposed square framing. The road-facing front has a brick projecting wing to the left, with three casement windows on the first floor to the right and one on the ground floor. The north end gable is made of rubble stone with coping on the west side and a raised east side. The south end wall has an outside stack and exposed framing to the right. The east front features continuously square framing with 4 x 15 panels and a rubble stone chimney wall at the right end. There are three triple casements on each floor and a door leading to a 20th-century enclosed porch to the right of center. Inside, the north end has a large fireplace with a timber lintel and two spine beams with stepped stops that extend across the passage. The south end roof features a four-panel compartmental ceiling with deep-chamfered beams, and the north wall has a stone fireplace that was originally moulded and Tudor-arched. One blade of a full cruck truss is located on the west side. The building may have originally been a hall house and is noted to have smoke-blackening on the roof timbers.
