Description
York Farmhouse is a farmhouse that likely dates back to the early 16th century, with some later alterations. It features a cruck frame, a rendered base, and roughcast, probably over timber framing. The roof is made of old plain tiles and has a half-hipped design, with a brick ridge stack at the center and an end stack to the right. The building has a hall-house plan with a cross-wing to the right. It is single-storey with an attic and has a three-window range, alongside a two-storey-and-attic cross-wing to the right.
The central entrance has a plank door and is sheltered by an open timber-framed porch. To the left of the door is a three-light casement window, while there is a two-light casement to the left of center and a four-light casement to the right of center. The end of the cross-wing features an angled bay. The cross-gables have three-light casements on either side of the center. The first floor of the cross-wing jetties out, with a two-light casement window at the center. The cross-wing also has a half-hipped gable end with a two-light casement in the attic. The left return has a stone base.
Inside, there is a 20th-century open well staircase. The interior includes jointed cruck beams with arch-bracing to the collar at the center, an open fireplace to the right of center with a bread-oven arch, and extensive beaming, including stop-chamfered spine beams with ogee end-stops.
