Description
Cinderland Hall Farmhouse is a farmhouse that dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, with parts now used as an outbuilding. It features a timber-framed structure that is partly rendered and encased in brickwork from the 18th and 19th centuries. The roof is made of graduated stone slate and corrugated asbestos. The building has a 3-unit cross-passage plan, with the service end on the left largely rebuilt. The main house, which was once an open hall, is now two storeys high and has a two-storey crosswing on the right, totaling four bays. There is a gabled porch, and the windows from the 19th and 20th centuries include two tripartite sashes and one sash that replaces an earlier fire window. The projecting gabled crosswing on the right is rendered, concealing the timber frame. At the rear, an outshut hides a timber frame that is three panels high and diagonally braced. There are two brick chimney stacks.
Inside, immediately to the left of the cross-passage, there is a cruck truss that includes three Tudor-arched doors, which are now blocked, with the central door being taller than the others. The house part features a large inglenook fireplace and chamfered beams. The crosswing is said to contain some concealed elaborately carved timberwork. The farmhouse has an interesting and complicated history, with the timber-framing being particularly noteworthy.
