Description

The Waterhouses Aqueduct is a canal aqueduct that spans the River Medlock, built between 1792 and 1798. It was engineered by Benjamin Outram and constructed from hammer-dressed stone. The aqueduct features retaining walls that are segmental in plan, with two stone bands, battered square terminating piers, and a parapet wall on the tow-path side only. It has a segmental arch, although the canal itself has since been filled in.
