Description
This barn, located to the west of Buckley Hill Farmhouse, dates from the 17th century and the late 18th or 19th century. It is constructed of English garden wall bond brick and features roofs made of graduated stone slate, corrugated asbestos, and slate. Originally, there were two barns. The earlier section on the west has opposed cart entries that are now blocked, decorative breather holes, a later lean-to addition, and tie-beam roof trusses with collar and diagonal struts. The later section on the east also has opposed cart entries, each with cheek walls that support a small outshut roof. This section includes small vents, a later outshut at the rear, and a purlin roof supported by arched diaphragm walls. Additional window openings were added in the 19th and 20th centuries.
