Description
The Stevens Monument is a chest tomb located in the churchyard about 12 meters south of the south aisle of the Church of St Matthew. This late 18th-century tomb is made of ashlar stone and features two fielded plaques on each side. The south side has a husk drop at the center and angle piers, while the north side piers are fluted with a central rosette. The monument has a moulded base and cornice, which is broken forward over the plaques. It bears an inscription dedicated to Richard Stevens, who died in 1772.
