Description
The monument to the Stevens family is located in the churchyard about 11 metres north of the central bay of the nave of the Church of St Andrew. This mid-19th century obelisk tomb is made of sandstone or possibly cast stone. It features a tapered square shaft on a base, topped with a flat segmental moulded capping that supports a draped urn on a square base. The entire structure is enclosed by an iron railing with spear-heads and corner standards that have small urn finials. Inscriptions are found on sunk panels dedicated to the Stevens family, with the earliest inscription dating to 1861 for James Stevens. The total height of the monument is approximately 2.75 metres. The absence of visible joints and the sharp detail suggest that it may be made from a form of cast stone.
