Description

Wollaston Grange is an early 19th-century farmhouse. It is constructed of rendered rubble with a plinth, featuring a Welsh slate hipped roof and end stacks, and a brick modillion cornice. A large external stack is located at the back. The main central block is flanked by lower wings set back and projecting beyond the main building, each with hipped roofs.

The front elevation is three stories with a basement, and is three windows wide. It contains good 19th-century sash windows with glazing bars to the first and second floors. The ground floor features two later canted bays, a central six-panel part-glazed door leading up four steps, and a continuous slated verandah roof. The wing on the left has a two-light 19th-century casement window with a mullion on the first floor, while the wing on the right has two sash windows without bars and a door.

The rear elevation includes a three-light 19th-century casement window with mullions, and steps leading down to a round-headed plank door to the basement.

Inside, there is a good open-well staircase from the 19th century with stick balusters, turned newels, and a painted handrail. Some original stone slab floors remain. A mounting block is located at the south end of the building.
