Description

Plusterwine House is a farmhouse dating from the early 17th century and 18th century. It features a pebble-dash exterior and a plain tile hipped roof with small brick stacks at the outer ends. The house is arranged in an L-shape, possibly originally designed as a compact block, with a central stack on the back face.

The entrance front, which is on the inner faces of the 'L', has a left side that is 2½ storeys high. It includes one 20th-century two-light sash window above two 12-pane sashes with segmental heads. To the right, in the corner, there is a part-glazed six-panel door. The right return side has two windows with four-pane sashes, one of which was previously a door, and there is a pair of 20th-century glazed doors in the center. An older stack appears to have been cut off from this wing. The other sides of the house feature various casements and occasional sash windows, indicating substantial modifications to the exterior.

Inside, the ground floor has a room on the left with a four-compartment ceiling that includes moulded beams and stopped joists. On the first floor, there are very heavy beams with stopped chamfers. Adjacent to the compartmental-ceiled room is a tight spiral staircase that extends through two floors, with solid wood treads on the upper flight. The roof structure has not been inspected.
