Description
Stroat House is a detached dwelling located on the east side of the A48 in Tidenham. It dates from the late 18th century and has been modified in the 19th and 20th centuries. The exterior features rendered walls with ashlar V-joint alternating quoins and V-joint pilaster strips on the central bay. The house has a half-hipped Welsh slate roof with a modillion eaves cornice and two brick stacks.
The front of the house is symmetrical, with a parallel range and a low wing that returns to the road on the right. It is three storeys high and has three windows, all of which are 12-pane sashes with alternating jamb stones and voussoirs, set on stone cills. The central bay has first and second floor windows with arched heads and Gothick tracery, the upper window featuring ogee interlace. The entrance consists of a central six-panel door topped by an elliptical Y-tracery fanlight, framed by pilaster strips and a deep pedimented hood supported by brackets.
The rear of the house mainly consists of a 20th-century extension or rebuild featuring steel sash windows, including a two-storey double bay and a verandah. Stroat House stands prominently above road level, making it noticeable to passing traffic.
