Description

Old Manor Cottage is a detached house dating from the 16th and 17th centuries, with an early 18th-century refronting. The front is constructed of English bond brick, and it features a thatched roof with coped verges and pairs of diagonally-set brick stacks at the gable ends. The house is two stories high with three windows. The central entrance has a ribbed door set in a thatched porch, flanked by two 3-light leaded casements from the 20th century. On the first floor, there are three 3-light leaded casements, and a central raking attic dormer with a 3-light diamond-leaded casement. The right side of the building shows remnants of timber framing within a rubble stone wall, with a 2-light ovolo-mullioned casement on the ground floor and a single ovolo-moulded casement on the first floor. The rear of the cottage was not accessible during the survey in July 1986.

Inside, the central hall features a moulded beam and joists, wainscot panelling, moulded planked doors, and an open fireplace with a chamfered lintel. The parlour has a beam on a jowled post with a roll mould. The first floor retains wainscot panelling, and the roof still has some original timbers, including chamfered purlins and formerly curved windbracing. The cottage was likely originally timber-framed.
