Description
Parsonage Farmhouse is a late 16th-century farmhouse that has been converted into a detached house, with an east wing added in the late 17th century. The main structure features large framing with tension bracing, while the 17th-century wing has a square-panelled timber frame. The south entrance front has been rebuilt using brick and rubble stone, and the building is topped with a tiled roof and brick stacks.
The farmhouse is arranged in an L-plan with a former through passage leading to the rear of the hall stack, consisting of three cells. The entrance is now located in the south gable end of the main range and is two-storey with two windows. A 20th-century stone porch leads to a four-panelled 19th-century door, with a three-light segmental-headed casement window to the right and a two-light casement to the left. The first floor features a single-light casement and a two-light casement.
The right return showcases the gable end of the 17th-century wing, which has a modern single-storey extension attached. The rear of the wing retains its timber framing and has two-light casement windows. The main range has rubble stone on the west ground floor, featuring a two-light casement and a blocked doorway leading to the former through passage on the left of centre. There is also a two-light inserted casement with a hoodmould, a three-light hollow-chamfered mullioned casement with a hoodmould, and a 20th-century door to the right. The rendered first floor includes three three-light casements and one single casement.
The north gable end has rubble stone infill to the timber frame and a two-light casement. The east side features two three-light casements and a two-light casement in a blocked doorway at the rear of the through passage, along with three two-light casements on the first floor. The interior was not accessible during the survey in July 1986, but it is reported to retain two open fireplaces, timber-framed partitions, and chamfered beams.
