Description
Luthers is a detached cottage located on Shutts Lane in Coombe Bissett. It dates from the late 17th century, with a mid-18th century bay added to the east. The original 17th-century section features a chequered pattern of flint and chalk, while the 18th-century bay is constructed of Flemish bond brick. The cottage has a thatched roof that is hipped to the right, with a brick stack on the left side.
The building is two stories tall and has a three-window front. The central entrance is a glazed door with a thatched canopy, flanked by one 20th-century casement window on each side. The first floor has been heightened in the 18th century and features three 20th-century casements. To the left of the main structure is a single-storey 20th-century extension. The right side of the cottage has a 3-light casement window on both the ground and first floors.
At the rear, the building is made of chalk and has two casements, one of which has been inserted into a blocked doorway. The attic includes two eyebrow dormers with casements. Inside, the cottage features chamfered beams with bar stops, an open fireplace with a chamfered, cambered lintel, and a bread oven.
