Description
The entrance walls and piers of Chippenham Cemetery were built around 1854. They are constructed from limestone rubble with ashlar coping and piers. The walls stand approximately 2 meters high and feature chamfered coping with foliate stops along the outer edge. The walls project forward for about 8 meters to meet tall gabled piers, then extend approximately 50 meters to the right with simpler chamfered capping, and 60 meters to the left where they step back after about 30 meters. The wall on the right continues back for about 140 meters and turns to form a rear wall for approximately 30 meters. Originally, these walls enclosed the graveyard, but part of them has been demolished to create a new rear entrance.
