Description

This pair of semi-detached houses, originally a public house, dates to the late 18th century and was altered in the 19th century. The building is constructed of squared coursed rubble with ashlar quoins and dressings around the windows. It has a stone slate roof and brick stacks to the gable ends. The original plan comprised three units with later additions to the rear. The two storeys feature a three-window front. The windows are two-light designs with plain stone surrounds and stone mullions, now fitted with 20th-century glazing. A central party wall sits between the windows of the central bay. Number 156 has a 20th-century gabled porch. Number 154 features a lean-to porch supported on brackets. Internally, the houses have been altered, and Number 154 retains the chimney breast of a former open fire. The building began as the Old Bell Public House in 1784.
