Description

No. 84, London Road is an early 19th century house, significantly restored. It is constructed of limestone ashlar with a slate roof, stone ridge tiles, and coped gables. The building features moulded ashlar stacks, one with a brick shaft and the other truncated. The design is Neo-classical and follows a double-depth plan.

The two-storey house with an attic has a symmetrical three-window facade, punctuated by three gabled dormers. It has 8/8-pane sash windows with horns. A projecting, flat-roofed porch, enclosed and featuring a 20th-century timber cornice, is a prominent feature. The porch has incised panels to its front and small windows to its returns, and contains a six-panel door with a bolection moulding and a cast-iron wreathed knocker, likely repositioned. The porch is flanked by plain walls, with a window to each side. Above the platband are pilasters, with incised segmental-arched panels framing the side windows. The central bay is stepped forward, featuring a segmental-arched pediment to the parapet and a segmental arch above the window. The interior has not been inspected. The house presents a distinctive early 19th century facade.
