Description
15 Fore Street is a late 17th-century farmhouse, now a house. It is characterised by mass walls, originally plastered, and a thatched roof, with a corrugated asbestos section to the rear ridge. Stacks have rendered shafts, with the left-end stack projecting. The house originally had a single-depth, three-room plan, with the higher end to the right, and the entrance facing the stair. A rear left outshut is also present.
The exterior presents an asymmetrical six-window front. The entrance, located to the left of centre, features a fine moulded timber doorframe, a plank door with strap hinges, and likely an original overlight. The windows are small, two-light casements with glazing bars. A 20th-century glazed door provides access to a small, 20th-century verandah across the front.
Inside, the centre room has a boxed-in cross beam. The right-hand room, now divided into two spaces, features a chamfered axial beam with run-out stops. A two-panel door remains on the first floor. Other original features are likely concealed behind modern plaster. Visible from upstairs, the feet of the principal rafters are straight; the apex of the roof was not visible during survey. The building is a handsome late 17th-century farmhouse now situated in a suburban setting.
