Description
The Polsham Arms is a house, likely dating from the early 17th century or even earlier, with alterations in the 20th century. The external walls are roughcast and covered with a false timber-frame cladding, topped by a slate roof with gabled ends. There are end stacks, an axial stack, and a front lateral stack, all with rendered shafts.
The original plan probably comprised 3 rooms with a through- or cross-passage, with a single-room addition at the left end. The front has an asymmetrical 5-window arrangement. A prominent lateral stack with set-offs is located to the right of the centre. There are 3 doorways on the front. The doorway to the left of the stack is from the late 18th century, featuring a doorcase with reeded pilasters, an entablature, and a moulded cornice. This doorway contains a half-glazed door with moulded panels, which is probably from the same period. A doorway to the right of the stack has a 20th-century replacement door above a 3-pane overlight. A third doorway is located on the left. Late 18th- or early 19th-century sash windows are present throughout. On the ground floor, there are two tripartite sashes to the left, flanked by 4-pane sashes and a 12-pane sash. A 12-pane sash is located between the two left-hand doorways. A 28-pane fixed bar window sits on the ground floor to the right. The first floor has three 12-pane sashes, one 16-pane sash, and a 20th-century window at the left end.
The interior was partly inspected. The ground floor has been altered for use as a pub, but other features of interest may remain.
