Description
Crabbers Cottage is a cottage dating from the early 19th century, likely a remodelling of an 18th century or earlier building. It features solid roughcast walls with exposed stone rubble quoins at the rear left corner, and the left end wall has exposed stone rubble inside on the ground storey. The cottage has a slate roof and a large rendered chimney with a tapered cap on the right end wall, topped by a later painted brick shaft. There is also a 19th century painted brick chimney on the front left-hand corner. The original plan has been altered, but it was probably two rooms wide and one room deep with a central entrance passage. The staircase is now located at the rear of the left-hand room. The cottage is two storeys high and two windows wide, with the windows set at the outer ends of each storey. There is a central doorway with a plank door in a beaded frame. The small-paned sash windows have 8 over 8 panes on the ground storey and 6 over 6 panes above, with the ground-storey windows featuring hinges for exterior shutters. The interior of the ground storey has been significantly altered, but it includes a wide fireplace with a wood lintel in the right end wall.
