Description
Sunny Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the 18th century or early 19th century, with some alterations made in the 20th century. The building is constructed of rendered stone rubble and cob, with the right end wall rebuilt in brick. It features a thatched roof, which is hipped at the right end, and has a stone rubble stack at the left end.
The layout consists of two rooms with a central passage, where the left-hand room is heated. A straight run staircase from the 20th century leads to the rear of the right-hand room; the original staircase was located in the rear left-hand corner of the left-hand room. There is also a single-storey kitchen extension added to the rear of the left-hand room. The roof structure and the continuation of the rear cob wall to the right of the rebuilt end wall suggest that the cottage may have originally extended to the right, although it could also relate to a separate occupation.
The exterior is two storeys high with a two-window range. The windows are all late 19th century or early 20th century three-light casements, with three panes per light, except for the right-hand window on the ground floor, which was replaced in the 20th century. The cottage has a thatched porch and a doorway that was added in the 20th century.
The interior has been entirely altered in the 20th century, but it likely features a roof structure from the 18th or early 19th century, characterized by straight principals of light scantling and pegged lapped collars.
