Description
Jarman's Cottage is a cottage that likely dates from the mid to late 18th century, with alterations made probably in the early to mid-19th century. The building features a ground floor made of painted stone rubble and a first floor rendered in cob. It has a gable-ended roof covered with scantle slate and a brick chimney stack.
The original layout consists of a two-room plan with a central entrance leading into the right-hand room, which is larger and has an integral end stack. The left-hand room is smaller and unheated, with a staircase at the rear. At some point, likely in the early to mid-19th century, the eaves were raised, and the right-hand gable end was rebuilt in stone, evident from the straight joints.
The exterior presents a symmetrical three-bay front, featuring what are probably 20th-century two-light small-paned wooden casements. The central entrance has a 20th-century six-panelled door framed by a 19th-century chamfered frame.
Inside, the right-hand ground-floor room contains a blocked 18th-century fireplace with a chamfered and stopped wooden lintel, along with a window seat. The left-hand room has an 18th-century four-panelled door with a pegged frame and also features a window seat.
