Description
47 Totnes Road is a villa dating from the 1820s, currently used as a school of dancing. The building is finished in stucco and has a slate roof that is hipped at both ends, with end stacks featuring brick shafts. It is designed in the Gothick style and has a double-depth plan that is two rooms wide, with a central entrance and an addition at the right end. The villa stands two storeys tall and has a symmetrical three-bay front with deep eaves supported by paired moulded brackets. The central entrance features a half-glazed double door with etched glass panels and an ogival fanlight with margin panes. On either side of the door are French windows, also with margin panes and similarly-glazed ogival heads. The first floor has three matching two-light casement windows. The interior has not been inspected but may contain features of interest. This villa shares a similar design with No. 53 Totnes Road and the villas built for the Gillard family, particularly Aylmer on Milton Street in Brixham.
