Description

The garden wall and railings located north of No. 47 on Totnes Road in Paignton were built around the 1820s, at the same time as No. 47. The wall is constructed from snecked local grey limestone and is topped with cast-iron railings. The low walls feature iron railings arranged in panels, with groups of three decorated panels flanked by plainer ones. The decorated panels have a central motif of cross braces with a circle, surrounded by panels adorned with semi and quarter circles, the quarter circles featuring spokes. The railings include contemporary iron standards with sunk panels and finials, which flank the gateway. This ornate set of garden railings enhances the setting of the nearby Gothick house.
