Description
This is a house, dating to the late 17th century, with significant additions and alterations in the mid-18th century and mid-19th century. The exterior is colourwashed rendering on stone and brick, with stone slate and tiled roofs. Three hipped casement dormers project from the front roof. Originally a two-bay 17th-century building with a gable to the front, it was extended with a cross wing, incorporating the original front bay under a new cross roof and featuring an external gable stack. A further extension in the mid-18th century added a two-by-one-bay structure with a central hallway, featuring gable stacks. Initials “WM” and the date 1748 are preserved within a first-floor cupboard. A rear block and stair were added around 1840. A brick lean-to stable block is attached to the gable end. The main entrance features a six-panelled door set within fielded and panelled reveals, a moulded doorcase, and a delicate arcaded and dentilled canopy supported on consoles. Flanking the entrance are two-story canted bay windows with 12-pane sashes; a 12-pane sash is above the door. The eaves feature similar arcaded and dentilled mouldings extending around both bay windows. Three-light casement windows are found in the earlier block on the right. The yard between the rear block and the back bay of the original building is covered. The interior includes panelled doors, mid-19th century marble fireplaces, and simple plaster cornices.
