Description
Belmont Brewery is a mid to late 19th century building that consists of two sections. It features polychrome brick and Swindon stone with a tiled roof. The main section is made of roughly coursed stone rubble with red brick dressings. It has one tall storey basement and is divided into four bays, each marked by four-centred arches on pilasters. At the east end, there are three stepped brick pointed-arched windows with brick surrounds, stone keys, and imposts. The south wall is blank except for arcading, while the north wall has three similar small windows. A door is located in the west wall next to the tower. The tower is constructed of red brick with stone quoins and blue brick window dressings. It has tall windows on the south face and shorter windows on the west. Above the parapet, a slender square upper tower rises, featuring a Venetian bracketed top cornice. The brewery was once owned by the same proprietor as the Bell Hotel on High Street and replaced a simpler brewhouse that was located in the hotel yard.
