Description
The Royal Oak is a public house built in the early 19th century. It features roughcast brickwork and a slate roof. The building stands two stories high with two bays facing Newport Street and a three-bay return along Devizes Road. The central entrance is located at the corner of the building. The ground floor has a c1900 green glazed ceramic tile plinth, pilasters, and a pedimented doorcase with a fascia displaying the name. The windows on the ground floor have etched glass and green tiled aprons, while the upper floor has 12-pane sash windows. On the Devizes Road elevation, the glazed fascia extends over two canted bays and two entrances, although one of the entrances is blocked. The first floor features three 12-pane sash windows.
