Description

The walls surrounding the former kitchen garden at the north end of Dodington Park date from the early to mid-19th century. They enclose approximately 4 acres and are constructed of brick with stone dressings. The walls stand about 4 meters high and feature brick pilasters at regular intervals, topped with stone coping. There are round-headed archways with stone surrounds, projecting keystones, and voussoirs on the south and north-west sides, along with narrower entrances to the east and west. A square-headed doorway in a stone surround is located to the west. A section of the wall has been partially demolished to create a new entry to the north-west on Catchpot Lane. To the north of this entry, there is a low projecting wall with a square stone terminal pier that has a hipped top. The north-west entry is adorned with fine gates that ramp down at the center, featuring knob finials with scroll work and scrolled finials along the horizontal struts. At the time of the survey in September 1984, the walls were noted to be in poor condition.
