Description

The fishing lodge, located on the north bank of the lake at Dodington Park, dates from the late 18th century and is likely part of Capability Brown's landscape designs for the area. Constructed from limestone ashlar and rubble, it features a slightly pitched corrugated iron roof and is designed in the Batty Langley Gothic style.

This single-storey, open-fronted lodge has a rubble plinth with a central round-headed arch that has a rusticated surround and a projecting keystone. Above the arch, there are square piers that break forward on each side, each adorned with triple clustered slender shafts on plain pedestals. These shafts are divided into four sections by moulded shaft rings, with the two central piers featuring four clustered shafts. The structure is topped with a bead-moulded entablature, cornice, and a parapet that extends around the sides.

On the left side, there is a doorway with a plain reveal and a flush keystone, leading to steps. The right side has a door opening to the left and an ashlar wall to the right, with similar engaged clustered shafts at the rear of the left pier and along the wall. The rear features a rubble wall.

Inside, the rear has a wooden floor that is raised above the front floor made of black and white stone. There are also single wooden shafts attached to the side walls on both the left and right. At the time of the survey in September 1984, the lodge was noted to be in poor condition.
